Dennis
Landry is proud to be a Cajun and proud to
be doing his part to preserve Cajun
culture.
Born in 1951 in the rural community
of Belle Rose on the banks of Bayou
Lafourche, he spent his youth paddling his
old cypress dugout pirogue up and down the
muddy waters of Bayou Lafourche.
Being one of six boys in a
relatively poor family, he learned quickly
the value of hard work and education.
After being educated in the public
schools of Assumption parish, he went on
to work his way through college earning
not only a B.A. but also a Master of
Education degree.
It was his love of history and Cajun culture that inspired
him to teach history on the elementary and
high school level.
However, he was lured from the
classroom by a better paying job in the
booming Louisiana oilfield industry.
Dennis was then married, fathered
two wonderful sons, built a beautiful
Cajun Colonial style home, and lived the
American Dream.
In 1983, he was elected to the
Assumption Parish School Board, served a
total of eleven years and spent two of
those years as President.
Unfortunately circumstances would
cause him to lose his school board office
in 1994, his long-term marriage of twenty
years would end in divorce in January 1998
and he would lose the home of his dreams.
However in April of 1998, Dennis
would leave his oilfield sales job, begin
a new life, and focus his efforts on
developing his property at Bayou Corne.
In addition to developing and
selling real estate in his Sportsmans
Paradise Subdivision of Bayou Corne,
Dennis also got interested in the cabin
rental/bed and breakfast business.
By the fall of 1998, the first
Cajun-style cabin was ready for guests and
offered the areas very first bed and
breakfast accommodations.
By the fall of 1999, the second
cabin was constructed, a wharf over the
bayou was built, a cypress picket fence
was added, etc.
Improvements are constantly being
added to the Cabins, Boat Landing and real
estate offered for sale.
Interestingly
enough, Dennis is also a licensed
Auctioneer, specializing in charity and
benefit fund-raising auctions. He is known far and wide across
south Louisiana for conducting auctions
for non-profit groups such as Ducks
Unlimited, Safari Club International,
National Rifle Association, National
Turkey Federation, Schools, and church
fairs.
Additionally, he is also a
volunteer Ducks Unlimited area chairman
(Pierre Part) since 1983, and is currently
recognized on the National level as a
Trustee Emeritus of Ducks Unlimited, Inc.
Dennis
really enjoys his New Life and
really takes great pleasure from getting
to know his frequent Cabin guests.
He especially enjoys sharing the
beauty of the bayou country by taking his
guests on private boat tours of the
areas swamps, bayous and lakes.
Dennis really enjoys helping his Cabin guests get the most
out of their stay at Cajun Cabins of Bayou
Corne!
Lets pass a good time on the
bayou!
